Bao started as a casual chat we had while enjoying an afternoon walk along the ocean front a few weeks before our little girl was due. We were in the thick of preparing everything that we thought we would need; diapers, formula, bottles, clothes, swaddles - the excess and over-the-top kind of worry that first time parents will all experience.

Bringing a baby into this world is overwhelming. Just the physicality of it is already exhausting, but yet we found ourselves worrying about the clothes we had gotten her. Were they too big? Too small? Was the material soft enough? Were there any chemicals in the dyes that would cause discomfort?

As if there wasn't already enough to worry about.

Why didn't a product exist that would make it easier? Something that we as expecting parents could rely on to simplify baby wear and eliminate that uncertainty and frustration that came with shopping for baby clothes.

Fast forward 6 months, and we started to notice the rate of which we were going through sizes. Our little bao came out on the smaller side and we had to immediately go and look for clothes that were sized from preemie babies. Within a few weeks, she had already outgrown them. Then a month later, a new size again! We actively packed up her outgrown clothes to donate, but we literally couldn't even keep up with donating clothes before she outgrew the next size already.

On a whim, we went to a large multinational brand just to see how many sizes she would need to go through over the next year or so and we found that these brands will have a total of 8 - 10 sizes from newborn up to 2 years old.

Again, 8 - 10 sizes for 24 months. That figure blew our minds. Surely there was a better way? So while we had previously toyed with the idea of designing our own baby wear for aesthetic purposes - we found a much better reason to re-approach that idea. After over a year of designing, sketching, prototyping and producing we are almost ready to bring the first collection of products to you.

We have condensed 24 months into 3 sizes, across a collection of onesies, bodysuits, pajamas, cardigans, pants - available in our Essentials collection.
